Transformer pressboard is manufactured from high-purity cellulose/wood pulp and designed to provide both electrical insulation and mechanical support inside transformers. It is compatible with transformer oil and is commonly used around windings.

Typical applications include winding cylinders, spacers, axial/radial ducts, end rings, barriers, strips, blocks, washers and coil-support insulation.

Important properties are high dielectric strength, good mechanical/compressive strength, low moisture content, good oil absorption/impregnation, dimensional stability and resistance to transformer operating temperatures.

A commonly referenced international standard is IEC 60641 for pressboard and presspaper used for electrical purposes.
