The 9-inch Allis forceps are a type of surgical clamp primarily used to securely grasp, hold, and retract dense or slippery soft tissues during various surgical procedures. Due to their sharp, interlocking teeth that provide a firm grip, they are often used on tissues that are to be removed or are tough enough not to be significantly damaged by the pressure. 

General surgery:

Grasping and manipulating fascia (connective tissue), skin, muscle layers, or the peritoneum.

Gynecology and Obstetrics:

Holding tough tissues like the cervix or vaginal walls, especially during procedures such as hysterectomies, episiotomy repairs, or IUD insertions.
